Solid Waste Engineering

Cross-section of a landfill.
The solid waste engineering team at Daniel B. Stephens & Associates, Inc. (DBS&A) has successfully completed projects involving all of the design and construction oversight activities required for the most complex landfill projects. We maintain a superior record of meeting the cost, quality, and schedule expectations of landfill clients in both the public and private sectors. As a result, DBS&A is the firm of choice for many landfill operators in the western U.S., including municipalities, counties, private operators, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense.

DBS&A is a national leader in the design of alternative landfill covers for arid regions. An alternative landfill final cover offers the opportunity to save millions of dollars and provides improved cover performance for erosion control and long-term maintenance. DBS&A has gained regulatory approval for and has demonstrated the successful performance of this cost-saving design at several sites, resulting in recent widespread acceptance. We also offer in-house capabilities in computer-aided drafting (CAD) for efficient production of engineering design drawings and geotechnical soil testing by DBS&A's Hydrologic Testing Laboratory. In addition, DBS&A has developed the equipment and test methodology for the air-entry permeameter (AEP), a highly efficient and less costly soil test that replaces standard test methods.
