DBS&A assists engineers and planners of transportation projects with a wide range of environmental and geotechnical services needed to move projects forward. During the past 15 years, DBS&A’s environmental services division has effectively assessed numerous transportation project sites. These projects have included work on highway and rail corridors to ensure that project goals and construction worker safety were not compromised by environmental contamination on site. Where appropriate, we have evaluated remedial alternatives and implemented corrective actions so that construction activities can continue on schedule and within budget. Risk management and worker safety are important drivers in our evaluations of hazardous conditions at a site.
DBS&A also has expertise to evaluate potential environmental impacts related to highway and roadway construction and associated buildings and facilities. Our team members have supervised all aspects of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, including environmental assessments (EA), categorical exclusions, biological assessments, affected environment and impact analysis, and threatened and endangered species surveys for highway and transportation projects in six states.
Another key area where DBS&A adds value to transportation projects is through soils and geotechnical analysis. The DBS&A Soil Testing and Research Laboratory performs analyses that enable our clients to better understand site soil conditions—such as soil strength and properties including triaxial and shear strength, and bearing capacity—that can be invaluable to road, highway, and railway designs. The laboratory is certified by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
