Re: Abstract Deadline for 2008 Ground Water Summit

Dear Colleagues:

As co-chair of the 2008 Ground Water Summit on March 30 through April 3, 2008 in Memphis, Tennessee, I would like to extend an invitation to you to submit an abstract.  The conference, which is sponsored by the Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers (AGWSE), a membership division of the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), covers a wide range of topics to allow recent issues and advances in groundwater science, technology, and policy to be brought to the forefront.

This year’s Summit is dedicated to Thomas A. Prickett, P.E., who passed away last month.  Tom’s career centered around the development and application of groundwater models.  A special session to be convened in Dr. Prickett’s honor will include papers by Professors Mary P. Anderson, Ph.D., E. Scott Bair, Ph.D., and others.  Other highlights include:

  • Keynote speaker Cynthia Barnett, author of the recent book Mirage: Florida and the Vanishing Water of the Eastern U.S.
  • Featured speaker Professor Richard B. Alley, Ph.D., one of the country’s leading experts on global climate change
  • Presentations by the Birdsall-Dreiss lecturer, Dr. Larry McKay, and the Darcy lecturer, Professor Michael A. Celia, Ph.D.

The deadline for submitting abstracts to any of the sessions is November 1, 2007.  Session topics and abstract submission guidelines can be found on the NGWA website at http://www.ngwa.org/2008summit/papers.aspx.  More information on the Ground Water Summit can be found at http://www.ngwa.org/2008summit/.

I am honored to be asked to chair this important event and I welcome and encourage your individual contributions to the field of groundwater science.  Please feel free to call me if you have any questions about the Summit or about abstract submissions.

Sincerely,

DANIEL B. STEPHENS & ASSOCIATES, INC.
